Addicted to Nicotine Gum

Hi Dumbo
You have all my sympathy.
I gave up smoking on Xmas day and it has been very difficult.
The truth of the matter is that cigarette companies have had to replace their income with something - and that has been nicotine gum etc etc
Of course - anybody would get addicted to the nicotine in gum and patches.
I went cold turkey because I didnt see the point in stopping smoking and then getting my fix in another form - its all much the same.
Dont let these companies make any more money out of you - you can do it.:j0 -
As others have said, it is the nicotine you are addicted to - which is no different to being a smoker. You are still addicted to the same drug. As with smoking, the only real way to get rid of the addiction is cold turkey, which will be torturous for a few days, but once you get over that three day hump you should start to feel a lot better. I found it interesting that you said you like the taste of the gum. It is like smokers saying they like the smell and taste of smoke, but if you stop smoking for any period of time and try smoking again they taste absolutely revolting. It is almost like the nicotine tricks your brain into thinking it doesn't taste bad, so that you will keep doing it. I should imagine that your love for the taste of nicotine gum is something similar.
On the plus side, one problem many smokers have when quitting is that they miss the hand action of holding a cigarette to the mouth, while you will be missing the action of chewing gum, which can easily be replaced with normal gum without getting addicted to nicotine again. I think this probably puts you in a better position than smokers trying to quit.0
