For January only, Nottinghamshire trading standards office are giving away REPLACEMENT electric blankets for over 55's or disabled people.
If you have a leccy blanket that is over 3 years old, then they will collect it and leave a new replacement. I rang up about this last week, a chap is supposed to be coming to see me this morning (he's late mind). They asked me when I rang what size blanket I use, I assume they are going to replace my double with another double.
As our blanket is now about 14 years old, I thought I'd give it a go. I'll let you know what the replacement is like when I see it.
I don't know where the finance for this is coming from, nor what it is meant to achieve - are hundreds of people injured or killed by their old electric blankets every year ??
My cynical hubby (who also has an odd sense of humour - the following comment is meant in jest) says it's so that the council can identify where all the old gits and crocks are, making it easier for them to wipe us out in one fell swoop
Anyway, hope it helps someone ...

I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. I won't argue, i'll just leave a thread if you don't like what I say.

Update to add - Chap just came to bring my blanket. It's a Dreamland Starlight double blanket like this http://www.amazon.co.uk/Starlight-Cosy-Under-Blanket-Double/dp/B003NE4X8U/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top .
Amazon reviews are mixed, but hey for free it's better than nowt. Apparently the council are paying for this, as replacing lots of electric blankets works out cheaper than sending out a fire crew to a fire started by a faulty one.I try not to get too stressed out on the forum. There were over 20 deaths and 5000 fires in England and Wales caused by electric blankets last year.Debt-free day: 8th May 2015 "Remember that sometimes not getting what you want is a wonderful stroke of luck," Dalai Llama0
