No buying unnecessary cleaning products challenge January 2013

Still 'on the wagon', the only cleaning-related buy was a Bloo Maxi loo block. Should last around 2 months.
That was from Poundworld, I like this one and can usually find it for a quid somewhere, they are often on offer in Wilko's.
I used to shudder at blue toilets, then realised blue water was a lot more pleasant than the sight when DS didn't flush the loo... I tried using the cheap blocks but they are absolutely useless, the colour seems to fade very rapidly. The Kiwi in-cistern loo bleach gizmos are great but seem to have vanished from £land shelves.
I will need to get Oxi -style powder soon, I use it as a wash booster for laundry gloop if needed. A!di's looks the best value.
My home made laundry gloop has really lasted and has cleaned well. I still have a week's worth left. Following that being UU'ed, I may use some of the large box of Surf I was given before making another batch. Washing soda and borax will be needed for that.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... I took the remains of a bottle of stardrops to my dad's today, as I noticed yesterday that he didn't have much washing up liquid (although he only bought a bottle last Thursday!), so that will do him until I go shopping again and can get him some more. I still have another almost full bottle of stardrops in the cupboard.Weight loss challenge 2/10lbs

What does he do with it?! I use Aldi's Magnum usually and it lasts AGES. I know we've had people using shower gel to clean the loo over on the toiletries thread, but a bottle in a couple of days - that's a bit mystifying...! Have you told him a teaspoon per bowl will do nicely?Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again... Believe it or not, he only uses it for washing up! A few times I've had to grab the bottle out of his hand, as he takes the top off and pours almost the whole bottle into the bowl, lol! I took him a new bottle round yesterday and gave him strict instructions to only use a little squirt. I agree with you on the Magnum, I use that and it does last for ages, but my dad could even get through a bottle of that in less than a week:eek:! Mind you, for some reason he has got extremely wasteful in general lately. Since he came out of hospital, less than a month ago, he has got through more coffee than OH and I would use in 6 months and more sugar than I would use in a lifetime, lol!
We went to HB today as I've run out of soda crystals, and I also bought some pre-wash stain remover, as my dad's clothes get so dirty I have to wash them 2-3 times to get them anywhere close to clean!Weight loss challenge 2/10lbs

Thanks for that explanation Sue! Clearly the phrase 'less is more' hasn't the impact with your Dad that it has with others...!
Ah HB... my nearest is some miles away and awkward to get to. I've had an IN of soda crystals too, 90p in Wilko's, also Harpic super strength toilet cleaner at 90p. Wilko's is almost as good as HB for kitchen and cleaning gear.
Both needed or will be needed soon, and the Harpic was on offer, as it often is in Wilko's.
Made a bucket of laundry gloop with some of the soda and this time without borax, other than half an ounce that was kicking around in a laundry liquid ball. Be interested to see if it works as well as the gloop with borax.Erma Bombeck, American writer: "If I had my life to live over again...
