Problems With PayPlan

Options
I was wondering if anybody else has been experiencing problems with PayPlan in the last 6-9 months?

My problems (in short) started 5 years into my arrangement with them, I had a great case officer, who was supportive and helpful and made sure that my creditors knew exactly what was going on and kept my income/expenditure up to date. I got a new case officer and it went downhill a few months later. I went on long-term sick from work and as I didn't get paid had to survive on statutory sick pay, I put together a new income/expenditure explained my situation, gave copies of doctors notes and said despite how low statutory sick pay was I wanted to pay something (even going without food some weeks to pay). It was a few weeks after this, having not heard anything back from my case officer, that letters started coming from my creditors demanding full payment. I was off sick due to being Bipolar and having a major bout of depression where I was on psychiatric watch and under 24-hr supervision so these letters were not helpful. When I spoke to the creditors, they had received no contact from payplan, none of the details that I had asked to be passed on, that would have been previously, nor my income/expenditure. This battle went on for months, with the creditors being extremely understanding and helpful (yes something none of us are used to).

When I started working again I sent a new income/expenditure increasing my payments and started paying, then I moved house and informed them of the changes relating to my move. I've never heard anything from them, but did find out that of the £155 I was paying them only £18 of it has been going to creditors!! I've written a 3-page complaint and am now contacting creditors directly to get arrangements set up with them directly, explaining the problems I've had and attaching my complaint letter so they have full details of what I've been dealing with.

Really I wanted to know if I'm alone with these problems or if anybody else has been discovering that PayPlan are just becoming plain ignorant?

I was reading a thread earlier on by someone who was having problems with payplan. I can't remember who sorry. Lets hope that you get this sorted although you seem to be in a good position for having contacted your creditors. Good Luck.

Thanks for the responses guys. More than anything I'm just really disappointed. I've spent 5 years considering PayPlan my Knights in Shining Armour but the last 6 months they've really let me down. Hopefully once I get the individual arrangements set up and the money back from PayPlan that they've not been sending to my creditors so that I can distribute it things will start to settle again....but I'll never trust PayPlan again...once burnt and all that!

Not sure if anyone else has mentioned but if you are considering going it alone, use the national debthelpline packs, you can download it with all the information, you have sample letters and even a payment calculator so no maths!

Always a bonus for me the latter ;)

Thanks for the advice, I actually work for a law firm and have sat down with one of the lawyers who deals with this type of thing and got some, thankfully, 'free' advice, they've told me what I need to say in the letters and what I need to give them.

They've also advised me where I stand with PayPlan and how long to give them before starting legal proceedings against them, which this lawyer will deal with for me....thankfully.

Well sounds like all you need is a pro rata calculator for payments with your legal connections you will be sorted!

Good for you for going at payplan though if they let you down then they need to learn lessons in order to get it right for everyone else!

Is this problem not because the money you pay Payplan takes time to filter to creditors and the period of time where you made no/reduced payments has only just got through the system?

Unfortunately not, PayPlan have acknowledged on what I've paid them that I've paid £150(ish) but are only paying out £18(ish) and have been doing so for a few months, despite having recieved new details from me to coincide with the higher payments...not to mention they just completely ignore all contact from me...and I don't phone because I've been stung on that in the past so make sure all contact is written these days.
