Hi everyone
1) creating a startup (CIC legal model or Ltd) and claiming WTC or HB?
- If I commence a feasibility study, build a team, get MVP and register most probably under Ltd or CIC Legal model - is this classified as self employment for purposes of claiming WTC and or UTC? If you go down the Ltd route and assumingly can't make profit for a while how does this impact you benefitwise?
- If I commence doing this now and my financial forecasting is to an extent likely to change between alpha and beta phase and whole lot of other factors between now and both April and October - can I get WTC as I will be working on this 30hr+ and therefore HB?
If I was to become self employed for one online easy to implement independent consulting business as sole trader and then work on the team Ltd idea can I legitimately say am working on both projects more than 30hrs so therefore elligible for WTC if assuming my income for the last tax year was low?
I know some people will try saying get a job work on own business or startup in your spare time and i have been trying but not getting far - am now trying to do the math/figure out if am better off working on one or either project and or 20-25hr work - i know that within 6m the one could generate income and i know that the other startup idea could be viable as there is another similar concept doing very well just dont know how anyone does this without either having rich parents/partner, social housing or house already.....if the government is meant to boost entrepreneurial capacity for those that do have degrees, skills, drive, and actually WANT to contribute to create more jobs for other ultimately how on earth is it feasible???
any constructive comments and feedback much appreciated - please feel free to pm me!
thanks!

some of these are answered in your earlier post https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/58448103#Comment_58448103
you do not need to be claiming WTC to make a claim for housing benefit
You need to read up on what WTC class as employment
http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/taxcredits/start/who-qualifies/workingtaxcredit/work.htm0 -
I was just wondering what the situation would be now with the new UTC rules as it would appear that unless you're making profit you cant really claim WTC as not in paid employment if you pay yourself in dividends so therefore I assume this doesn't meet the WTC requirements - also given that most startups take a while to become profitable what would be the situation if i solely work on this as opposed to also secure part-time or other freelance work in terms of benefits?
