I phoned Santander to change direct debit date because I reacently changed jobs and was told that I have to pay £25 upfront to change the payment date ???? Is this legal or are they trying to rob me ??

It's legal if it's in their terms. Which it is.

I doubt they're trying to rob you. A £25 mugging, when set against the prospect of losing their credit licence, probably isn't worth it for them.

  • Bit confused, is this a DD from another company to take money out of your Santander account?

Or is it say a DD to pay off your Santander Credit card?

If its the first then phone up the company the DD is with and get them to change it and you won't be charged.

If its the second then do as dalesrider said.
