Cycling gear. What do you wear?

Thankfully if its raining really badly I tend to go in the car to work. I have been caught a couple of times in the rain and thankfully my water resistant trainers have done their job. But yes I imagine that having soaking fee it not nice.
But do you find your feet sweat a lot in wellies?
Hi, and...no.
Might depend on the wellies, but my feet stay bone dry.
I was caught up in real heavy rain the other day, even my waterproof jacket was letting rain in slowly, but my feet?
Dry as could be.0 -
Rugby shirt and jumper and high visibility jacket on the top half.
Normal jogging bottoms on bottom half.
Normal socks and trainers.
Ski gloves when it is cold, normal cycling gloves when it isn't.
When it is very wet, I wear some waterproof trousers and some shoe covers that keep my feet dry.
I only use a helmet if the bulk of my journey is on the road.0 -

No need to wear wellies in this day and age, with waterproof/gortex style shoes available or seal skin socks.
SealSkin socks are laughably bad in my experience, and many other people agree that they're not fully waterproof.
Gortex boots are good if youre wearing trousers, but some idiots go out in the rain wearing shorts with sealskin socks and gortex boots and wonder why their feet are still getting wet...lol
The wellies ive got are quite comfortable, and i only wear them with trousers and in the rain.
Personally, when its hot i wont be wearing waterproof shoes, so theirs no need for me to purchase any.0 -
I can't imagine wearing wellies on a bike! I wear normal trainers although I do have some waterproof overshoes if needed.
I wear jogging bottoms/shorts and have some waterproof trousers. On top I wear some tops from Mountain Warehouse (not sure if they are for cycling but they are quick drying) and an Altura waterproof jacket.
I don't cycle in winter so I don't normally need gloves unless it is raining.0 -
I wear cycling tights, overshoes (look out for neoprene ones as I think they are mostly waterproof), baselayer and a good thermal cycling jacket. These keep me warm down to about 5C or so. If it is colder then I wear a jersey too. Also I have a waterproof jacket if it starts to rain.0

My sealskin socks have always been great and I cant stand having wet feet. I honestly think it wouldnt be a very comfortable experience going for a long bike ride in a pair of wellies!. Maybe o.k if your just nipping round the block or something.0 -

You're not wrong, at first it's kinda weird but now i suppose im used to it.
When im riding in the rain, im not aware of them to the point thats its a constant nuisance.
And that's great because..
1. Wellies are cheap, and..
2. No water is ever gonna get in
I could buy a £100 pair of gortex boots and be dissapointed.
If it aint broke....
ps - Oh and i feel like im sweating more and working harder in wellies = More weight loss!!
Oh and, i ONLY ride on tarmac.
If i was riding off road, i'd need something other than wellies in the rain. But i dont go off road.....ever.0 -
SNIPI don't cycle in winter so I don't normally need gloves unless it is raining.
I would recommend getting a pair of summer gloves if you can, purely to protect your hands should you come off. Most of us come off the biek at some point, and bad grazes on your palms hurt a lot
I got a pair in Sports Direct for £4.0 -
Hi
Dedicated cyclist here! Been cycling for just over three years and I love it!
I wear base layer, football shirt on top of that and a lightweight cycling jacket - the base layer and jacket came to a grand total of £25 on eBay. The jacket has reflective panels on the back and arms.
I wear tracksuit bottoms / 3/4 length shorts in summer on the lower half which aren't waterproof but I don't mind my legs getting wet.
Shoes used to be basic trainers, but I bought some cycling shoes (with cleats and pedals). i also bought some overshoes and they have kept my feet dry and warm over the winter. Overshoes are pretty inexpensive and very effective.
Oh and I finally spent a few quid on a decent pair of gloves in the autumn - £15 Karrimor walking gloves - eBay again. They're fantastic!Sealed Pot Challenge 2013 Member #1969

I have a 12mile e/w commute and usually ride in shorts and a flouro t-shirt, always with gloves like the OP says.
If the temp drops below 2C, I have some running tights to keep the wind chill off the legs. I wear my shorts over the top of the tights. On the top I wear a long sleeve compression base layer with my t-shirt over the top, and if it's 0 or below, then I have an altura night vision jacket that I wear over the base layer top. My body doesn't really get too cold, just the fingers, so I've just invested in some decent gloves this year and they are the final peice in my kit.
On my feet, I've got some shimano summer shoes, with cleats but again like my fingers, the toes get cold. I started off by taping the toes with some electrical insulation tape and then when it's too cold for that, I've got some gortex boots that I swicth too.
When it's wet, it's a short cycle to the train station at the moment until I can get some decent 3/4 waterproof shorts - anyone have a good recommendation?0
