I wonder how many litres per mile that helicopter was consuming as it hovered around that site?
That patch of blue looks rather like a lake to me....0 -

That seems high.
https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/department-of-energy-climate-change/series/feed-in-tariff-statistics
For 0-50kW - from the beginning of the year till now was 250 megawatts.
https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/231119/July_2013_Monthly_MCS_and_ROOFiT_Pipeline_Statistics.xls - sheet 3
gives for >50kW - on a quick eyeball - about 40MW.
That's 290MW or so since the beginning of the year.
Either I'm confused, or they are - or there is 700MW of not MCS/ROOFIT registered installations - which seems unlikely.0 -

Hiya Roger, don't think you are confused, as I am seeing exactly the same as you. I suspect the difference sits in the move away from FITs to the slightly more generous ROCs for larger scale installs.
Mart.
PS. Just to make it more confusing, CfD's will be coming in, in a year, and there will be a crossover period too!. M.Mart. Cardiff. 8.72 kWp PV systems (2.12 SSW 4.6 ESE & 2.0 WNW). 20kWh battery storage. Two A2A units for cleaner heating. Two BEV's for cleaner driving.

Update: Yep, there's some mighty fine big installs out there:
Solar PV demand in the UK falls 46% in second quarter
http://www.pv-magazine.com/news/details/beitrag/solar-pv-demand-in-the-uk-falls-46-in-second-quarter-_100012539/#axzz2dCqV9CBC
The NPD Solarbuzz report reveals that 106 new ground-mounted solar PV installations with an excess of 1 MW capacity were installed in the first six months of the year.
Of those, 60 solar PV parks have installed capacity in excess of 5 MW, while eight claim a capacity of 10 MW and above. During the first six months of the year the U.K. also saw the completion of its largest solar PV park to date: a 34 MW project from Lark Energy, located at the former RAF Wymeswold Airfield in Leicestershire.
If I'm doing the maths right, just those 106 installs add up to a minimum of 410MWp.

Hi
Considering that the calculation used would be banded, so taking the lower figure in each range would result in the following .....
1-<5 ... (106-60)x1 = 46MWp
5-<10 ... (60-8)x5 = 260MWp
10-<34 ... (8-1)x10 = 70MWp
34+ ... 34x1 = 34MWp
.... therefore it would be correct to say that the installed capacity would classified as being a minimum of 410MWp.
10/10, no need to 'see me' .....
But, of course, using the upper end of each band would result in 1022MWp ((46x5)+(260x2)+(70x3.4)+34) ....
... then there's all of the sub 1MWp field scale installations .... so can't really gauge much from the information provided ...

Sharp near full capacity at UK solar module assembly plant

Sharp’s European PV module manufacturing operations, based in Wrexham, UK are running at near full nameplate capacity of 400MW, due to demand across Europe in the residential market, according to the company.

Mmm
http://www.wrexham.com/news/concerns-future-wrexham-sharp-factory-3742.html
Concerns have been raised about the future of Sharp’s manufacturing plant in
Llay after the company told the government it was reviewing its presence in the
UK.
Their decision has come about as a result of the government’s decision to
bring forward plans to halve the Feed-In Tariff for solar energy schemes from
March to December.
In a private briefing paper to the government Sharp Solar stated: “Sharp has
invested £26 million in its UK factory which, in 2005, became our European Union
manufacturing base.
“We are disappointed that this inward investment appears to have been
overlooked and in light of the comprehensive FIT proposals we are now in a
position of reviewing our presence in the UK.”
“We have already had to reduce the numbers of employees in our Wrexham
factory from over 1,000 to 500.”0 -
I know it is the Daily mail, but even by their standards its a poor article - almost incoherent in places.
Interestingly, comments seem to be in favour of the installation from a quick count...
Some very good comments pointing out the flaws. Liked this one:
The cheek of it! Imagine the sort of person who tries to find an alternative and sustainable source of power for local communities and families and in the process ruins the view for Hampshire-based helicopter enthusiasts!Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.0 -
The article is so out of date (~2years) that it's probably just as relevant as someone sitting in a trench in summer 1916 reading a newspaper article from 1914 saying that the war would be 'Over by Christmas' ....... news reporting of future events often turn out to be inaccurate for one reason or other ....

Hiya Zeup. Also had he taken the time and trouble to read the article I posted he would have seen this paragraph:
Compared to only a year ago the announcement is in stark contrast to Sharp’s decision to consolidate its European sales and marketing operations from Germany to London, UK and local news reports that the Wrexham plant was laying off workers due to weak demand and being uncompetitive with Chinese competitors.
Times change, unless you are living in the past ..... or perhaps defending a position that you came to with little to no thought or understanding 4 years ago, whilst the pesky world keeps on moving forward.
Mart.
PS. How much should I bet, that if there is a subsequent reversal, and Sharp get into difficulties, we'll see numerous posts claiming that I said they were the best thing since sliced bread, and that it couldn't happen?
