Self Assessment, PAYE and Child Benefit

All,
Hi Right I have been caught up in the Child Benefit change.. Fair Cop Guv. But I am somewhere in the middle of the range and a PAYE taxpayer. So I am going to register for SA. But several question come to mind.

1. How does being PAYE work with SA form etc I assume I won't get taxed twice...?

2. Can I claim any expenses, contributions etc on the SA form while being PAYE??

3. Can I rearrange my Tax affairs so I can claim any expenses etc?

Any help would be great.

Many Thanks
Adrian:)

    1. A (self assessment) tax return is a bare your soul document to HMRC telling them all your taxable income and claiming any allowances you may be entitled to.
PAYE is a method of on account, paying any tax liability you may have.
All income taxed through PAYE must go on the return together with the tax deducted through PAYE (unless you want to pay it twice).
    2. You MAY be able to claim expenses on your tax return in the same way as you may claim them now either by letter or phone call.
    3. If you have expense to claim you may claim the, if you haven't you can't
The only thing that is constant is change.
