Halifax mortgage application

I have been making myself I'll with worry reading through some of the posts on this forum so wondered if someone in the know could help?

We applied for a mortgage via telephone with the Halifax 2 weeks ago. I explained before starting the application that I had a history over the last 3 months of returned direct debits as I have no overdraft facility and had not been vigilant with monitoring the account. All payments have subsequently been made to date within 30 days of the late payment.

My partner has an excellent credit history although a lot of outstanding debt. The plan is to use the equity in our current property to pay off all debt and thus we would have a bigger mortgage but not be paying any more out monthly than we currently do.

All credit checks were made and on processing the application we were told that we weren't accepted for 90 percent mortgage but okay for 85 per cent. We redid our sums and decided that we could keep one of our loans and still be slightly better off than we are now and therefore afford the deposit.

We paid for valuation and faxed through our payslips and all came back fine. We have been told that the offer should be with us any day now.

However, I am terrified that another credit check will be run or they will ask for my bank statements after exchange and we will lose everything. How up to date is the credit check they run on application?

How likely is it that the offer will be withdrawn and is there anything we can do to prevent this situation?
Many thanks.

There is nothing else you can do.

Halifax routinely audits around 1 in 12 of its cases to ensure the documentation matches what was written on the application. That's likely to be the only way you'll be required to submit things you'd rather not.
