Locations for hotels in London.

Firstly apologies for yet another london hotel thread.
I have done a quick search on the forum but can't find what I'm trying to look for, so I've just started another thread.

I am going for two nights with the gf to the capital on friday feb 8th and Saturday feb 9th. I am certainly no expert on London so was hoping some people on here would give me some advise on favorable locations. We will just be doing the touristy stuff and will be coming in by train into London Kings cross.

So far I have seen London cumberland hotel which is located at the end of oxford street for £170. I have also seen the Hyde park premier London paddington for around the same price but on last minute.com, it's going for £140.

Is the docklands a good place to stay?

I just want to be near everywhere (i.e near a tube stop, and certainly not in a ghetto). So just somewhere central etc.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thankyou in advance

Docklands won't be good for most tourist locations - it's a decent train journey form the centre. I'd look somewhere like Premier Inn County Hall
loose does not rhyme with choose but lose does and is the word you meant to write.

If you're coming into KX, then look at the hotels around the station- that'll mean you can just tumble out of the hotel and onto the train on departure day, and it's easy to get to the hotel when you arrive.

KX is on the Piccadilly line, which takes in many of the central tourist tube stops - Leicester Square, Covent Garden, Piccadilly Circus, etc.

    Or, if you jump on the Piccadilly when you arrive, and go one stop down to Russell Square;

Docklands is by no means a central location - the Docklands Light Railway is an overground service, so if you want to go anywhere on that, you have to change at Bank or Tower Hill from the regular tube network.

We found London Bridge/Southwark cheaper, it looks further out but transport links are excellent.

Not really. Canary wharf is on the jubilee line and that can whip you round to Westminster and green park for buck palace in 10-15 mins or Stratford for Westfield in same time.

Indeed, I was just looking at the DLR/Tube change at one of the DLR terminii, rather than at an intermediate interchange.

We stayed at the Premiere Inn right next to Kings Cross/ St Panc. Its on York Way. Can drop off luggage as soon as get off train and then leave it there when you check out. We do that they collect when go for the train. It is a decent hotel, clean, friendly staff and large resturant for breakfast.

Tube station is about 5 mins away (at most) to get into Central London.
  • I'd recommend the Travelodge on City Road. Cheap rooms, that were basic, but comfortable. The location was central and the hotel had a good 24 hour bar that served food.

I'm looking at staying at the new Morton Hotel mortonhotel.co.uk in Bloomsbury for my GF and I's anniversary. Can anyone recommend any nearby hotels that are similarly interesting? I don't want to spend anymore than about £200 a night... (It's a special treat)
  • I don't know the Morton Hotel but stayed previously in nearby Bloomsbury Town House which has good deals atm on laterooms.com and may be worth investigating!

Monkee123, you seem to have signed up just to try and sell a hotel room in 2 threads - SPAM, I'm afraid.
