in Cutting tax
My husband has a house which he is hoping to rent out once it is re decorated and prepared for rental. Presently he is enjoying a 6 month break from council tax as the home is vacant.
If he does not manage to get it rented out within that 6 months will he be entitled to a 25% reduction on his council tax charge as he will be the only person registered at the address.
Thanks

He can't claim a 25% single person discount if he is not resident at the property as his 'sole or main residence'.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0

However, after the 6 month council tax free period, empty homes can get a discount of up to 50% but this is at the discretion of the council. You need to get in touch with your local authority and find out what their policy is.

Depending on when the Class C exemption runs out there may be a further complication.
From April 13 Class C exemptions are being removed and council's are being given the powers to set the rate therefore many are further reducing the % reduction that they are currently award.I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals.
