I mostly watch from recorded, so I can skip the ads.
I do try and explain to my family that setting a program to record and starting watching in 15 minutes late will still have it end at around the same time, but I'm not quite sure that sinks in.

I got a Humax foxsat box for £100 odd quid and added another LNB to my dish to point at another satellite so the German wife gets all her German tv as well as my FTA channels, the humax box handles it a treat, best £100 I have ever spent...

The main thing that bugs me about the commercial channels is that they all feel some obligation to start every programme on the hour or half hour, and to place their advert breaks in the same point of every programme.

Switch on TV at any of these times, flick up and down the channels, and there's NOTHING BUT ADVERTS.

Why can't some of them step out of line and schedule programmes from 5 past the hour to 25 to (for instance)??

It's probably because the advertisers want you to watch the ads.

(But using recording means you can skip them completely.)

Indeed thats exactly why ads are synchronised across the channels, it ensures that some ads are watched when folks channel surf during breaks.
That gum you like is coming back in style.
