I ditched Sky some months back and wished I'd done it earlier. Got a Freesat HDR box now which has all the same record, pause, play etc features of the Sky+ box, but also with a 1Tb drive, free HD channels and the various BBC iPlayer, ITV player, Channel 4 player etc all thrown in - all for no monthly subscription.
The box paid for itself in a few months through the cancelled Sky subscriptions. Best choice we ever made0 -
Thinking of ditching Sky as well. What brand is your Fresat HDR box?
Did you use ur existing Sky dish & double cable?
If so does the Sky dish need realigned?0 -
I think once canceled, your account will automatically be switched to freesat, which allows you to watch the channels here.
You may well have to get a replacement viewing card from Sky though.
ETA:
I already have Sky digital satellite equipment - what else do I need?
All you need to gain access to the free channels available on the digital satellite platform is a Freesat from Sky viewing card, which costs just £25. If you’d like to access the interactive services available, you’ll also need a working phone line. To purchase a viewing card please phone Sky on 08448 244 400. http://www.sky.com/shop/freesat/home/faq/#3The quickest way to become a millionaire is start off as a billionaire and go into the airline business.

If you want to record you'll have to pay Sky £10 ish a month. That gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
Thats the reason Sky + was invented, wizz though the ads.
does not help though when you want to sit and watch a program as its being shown
i did a little experiment where by i recorded one of those police stop programs, within a space of an hours viewing slot allowed for thiis program , i counted
TWENTY SIX ADVERTS
ALSO FOR THE SKY BASIC PACKAGE WHICH I WAS PAYING FOR I COULD GET MOST OF THE CHANNELS FOR FREE ON FREE VIEW0 -
That's Ok Bowling
but problem is I'm in Northern Ireland and I don't think Sky re-transmits Republic of Ireland RTE without a rip off £24 subscription.
Its available free on Freeview HD /Freesat HD
