Key cutting woes

I went to have a key cut (for my front door lock) at a place which has been cutting my keys ok for years. Now he's having troubles with this one, it does not open in spite of me coming back to the place for modifications a couple of times.
I am sure the key I am trying to cut does not have any special chip or anything that prevents it from being copied with cutting only - and I assume the key cutting shop would have advised me if that was the case.
Also, this is an original key of the lock, I am not trying to make a copy of a copy.
He says he cannot understand why the key is not opening, and would need a second copy, but I am not sure I want to bother a neighbour for that... I would have thought an original key was enough.
Is there any point in trying another shop and what are your experiences in this respect?
Are they all the same?
If you have a suggestion for a good place in North/East/Central london that'd be welcome.
Thanks
MR
