Followed guide for claiming compensation for delayed flight: Question

I followed the MSE guide for claiming compensation for when your flight is delayed. We finally received a form from the travel company today (it was booked by my friend though I paid for myself) for this flight in 2007 where we were delayed by about 7 hours.

The form wants our boarding passes however, my friend had his still in the bag he used but I believe mine is probably long gone. Does anyone have any experience claiming for this compensation type? Will it matter? Shouldn't it still show I got onto the flight? Will my friends ticket suffice for us both? I assume the point is to prove when we were meant to get on and when we did (though I have to believe this is on their database since I used an online database to find the info about our flight and how delayed it actually was).

    There is no definitive answer for this. The burden is on you to prove you were on the flight, but this could be by other means (ticket reference, for instance), and it would appear reasonable that the airline check its records for you. If they refuse to do this, you could submit a subject access request to get any data they hold on you - this could include a ticket number/ confirmation etc.

    Have you established the reason for delay?
  • It was in 2007 so I can't recall exactly, I believe it was something about it being delayed at one end due to queues which meant it was delayed getting here, I know it was meant to have a very quick turn around when it arrived to pick us up, quick clean, fuel and get passengers aboard.

    I would think that if I provide them with the flight details it should take themm5 seconds to check the flight, see I checked in and that it was delayed, considering I was able to do it online without any prior experience. Though i imagine they look for any excuse not to pay out.

    So I've received an e-mail from the airline saying that because the EU law doesn't say how long you have to claim htey have to default to British Law which says two years, but this site says 7. So are they just trying a first stage attempt to get out of paying, and if so where do I go from here?
