Natural Hair dye - again!

Hi everyone
I have been looking for a hair dye to use and stumbled across a lengthy thread on here about them which was very interesting but somewhat out of date.
So I thought it might be worth starting up a new thread to see if anyone has any recent experiences - good or bad they could tell me about regarding using natural hair dye to cover grey hair.
I am early 60's and have been using semi-permanent dyes on my hair since my teens without too many problems.
Now I have a bad back and have to rely on my hairdresser to colour my hair (as I can't reach all round easily) and he charges £45 to colour it and £45 to wash, cut & blow dry it. My hair just gets darker and darker, which is not very flattering as you get older and at £90 every 6 weeks I find it very expensive.
I would like to strip out the build up of colour and start using a natural henna or any natural product to tint the grey hair which is mainly at the roots. I suffer with eczema which flares up from time to time at the back of my neck/scalp line and I'm sure the hair dye is not helping it.
If anyone could offer any suggestions I would be grateful - I can get my daughter to put it on for me in the future. I have medium brown hair naturally but the dyes have made it look very dark brown which I hate.
