Britain's recent food price rises are "just the tip of the iceberg,
Mark Price said food price inflation would rise further as the heavy rainfall last year meant that many farmers did not plant crops for 2013.
Mr Price told the Sun: “We’re seeing input food inflation of around 3 to 3.5pc, but we expect it go up to as much as five.
“In some commodities, the increases will be massive,” he added.
“It’s bread, vegetables, all produce. The apple crop was down 20 to 30 per cent so apple prices have to go up. You have only seen the tip of the iceberg,” said Mr Price.
Last year was the second wettest year across the UK in records dating back more than a century to 1910.
I suppose the usual suspects will be crying for the BOE to raise rates to fight the weather.....

To be fair they should have seen this coming and adjusted something else to balance it out [/parody]This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Its been happening for a month or so already...look at the price of bread and potatoes...
Bread is up around 20p a loaf....potatoes are up around 50p a 2.5k bag..
Thats on the lower end products...15% bread...30% potatoes.0 -

Yes, apparently we've added billions and billions of raindrops to the water supply so inflation is inevitable.“The great enemy of the truth is very often not the lie – deliberate, contrived, and dishonest – but the myth, persistent, persuasive, and unrealistic.

So eat less -- curb the obesity and get healthier.No-one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions. He had money as well.
The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money.

Unfortunately it's the fresh, healthy food that becomes very expensive.0 -
No they couldn't forecast the bad weather but it will hi light the weaknesses in the economy from running everything close to the wire,
As my old man used to say a bit like an Aberdeen Bandage - no give.
We are are effectively running everything flat out to keep things moving and the hill just got steeper. They (governments in general)are running out off tools in the box and it will just remove consumption from on thing to another robbing the exchequer of VAT too.
What will be interesting is too see if prices ever come back down again."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

So tax all the unhealthy rubbish and throw that back in as subsidies for the stuff that's good for us.No-one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions. He had money as well.

What about those that aren't eating much as it is?
As much as I like JL for shopping for some stuff, I doubt they will be sharing the burden with consumers at Waitrose (or any other supermarket group)."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

If there is anyone who isn't eating enough to stay healthy because they cannot afford the food, even at bargain basement outlets, through no fault of their own, and consequently they don't smoke, drink alcohol, gamble, or enjoy any luxuries which would be better spent on food, then I'm happy for my tax money to be used as welfare so they can at least eat properly.No-one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions.
