This may be store specific but it's worth mentioning, my Asda (Lancaster) have a chilled section of Christmas food reduced which is separate to the usual yellow sticker stuff tucked away at the end of an aisle.
Among other things they have extra mature cheddar 600g for £3 (£5 per kg not a bad price) dated middle of Feb and 700g coleslaw tubs with 5 days left on them for 50p.

I've only ever paid £5 per kg for my cheese (both mature and extra mature) in Asda. It used to be 400g buy 2 for £4, then they changed the package size to 600g and 2/£6. This is the Asda branded stuff.0

Mum bought today:
. in a basket - 2 bottles of Extra Special vintage cider with 2 cheeses and a pot of chutney - £2 - was £8 before Christmas. The bottles are 2 for £3.
. Various pates for 35p - were £2.500 -
Allinwales I'm the same, I think anything over £5 for cheese is expensive and £5 is the maximum I'll pay, but so many are much, much more. I think the best deal I got was at Tesco earlier this year on a 3 for2 worked out at around £3.66 per kg.0
