Shampoo recommendations please..

Bit of a long story but I paid for a Brazilian blow dry at a local salon back in September, as soon as I washed it my hair went really frizzy again so the hairdressers said she would do it again. She did a couple of days later but again it didn't work (that's a whole other story....)

Anyway since my lovey glossy easy to manage hair is horrible, it's really dry and so so so knotty :-( I saw another hairdresser who said my hair felt like plastic and recommended using really cheap value shampoo to wash all the stuff put but tbh my hair is horrible still using this :-(

The original treatment was called la Kerrabelle if that makes a difference?

Anyway anyone recommend how I get my hair back to a more decent condition please??

Thanks x

Though this forum is for hair dye users for obvious reasons they have a large section (and large thread) on restorative shampoos, treatments and conditioners.

It sounds like the hairdresser has somehow damaged your hair so the above forum may be applicable.

I have found their advice invaluable and they are a very lovely helpful bunch (with some fab hair!)

    Hi Bargain,

Hope you got some help form the other forum, my hairdresser does this and she told me that you have to use a specific shampoo and conditioner when you have had this done, did the hairdresser sell you this because apparently you cant use normal stuff!!!

  • Hi Sam,
Yes she gave me some special shampoo to use which I don't think helped the condition as its soooo knotty when I used it and now. She is now saying it was a treatment not a brazillion blow dry but that's a whole other story...

I think I'm going to go for the Aussie hair or lee Stafford hair stuff

    Thanks x

Maybe do a sort of strand-test, see what works out because the last thing you want to do is to make it worse.

If your looking for treatments, it does depend on what your hair has been stripped of and it's hard to know without knowing exactly what went on with your hair.

If your hair is damaged due to lack of protein (possible) a weekly treatment you could try with protein in is by Jocio and its the K-Pac set that would help.

Another treatment and one to ONLY do every 6-8 weeks (if you do it any more frequently it can result in your hair becoming over treated and falling out when brushed) is Aphogee's 2-step Protein version, it's normally sold in ethnic hair shops and isn't too expensive. You don't tend to notice the difference on the first attempt, its the knock on effects of folloing it up 6-8 weeks later after your hair has properly absorbed it that you really begin to see the results. You don't need to do both the Jocio and Aphogee treatments, just stick to one.

Another issue you could have, could be over dried hair. For this your looking at a hair mask once a week. The expensive versions would be Kerastase Masquinntense (can't spell that!) which I've tried and is great.

My sister swears by Redken's Supersoft mask.

Lush also have a nice one called Retread but it is more of a daily conditioner then a mask, Another mask by Lush begins with an H and is something I can't remember how to type!

Kerastase also have a good mask if your hair is corse and frizzy and you have a lot of it (not fine hair) it's called Oleo Curl. Despite the name, it will not make your hair curly. Curly hair is naturally drier then naturally straight hair and so treatment masks tend to have more oils and moisture adding ingredients in them.

Aveda also make a great treatment and range called "Damage Remedy". I was bought some afew years ago and it still sticks in my mind as being a really good set of products. Not cheap however, I could never afford them anyway!

I've been given samples of a few other brands but they are even more expensive so I wont suggest them here as, as much as they are great, they are over-priced!

I have to say that I'm yet to find a cheaper version is as good as the expensive versions, even if you use them more frequently (which would probably work out just as expensive). If you are only going to try highstreet types, John Frieda's frizz ease and Aussies 3 minute mask are probably as good as the highstreet versions get.

Others have sworn by coconut oil and condition-only washing (not using a shampoo ever again). Coconut oil can leech colour so beware if you have at all coloured or highlighted hair!
