Missing NI contribution, one year

Hi
I'm 34 years old now and have been working since 2000 but I have one missing NI contribution year from 2006/2007.
I gather that the deadline for making up this missing year with a payment is the coming April 2013 but I'm wondering whether it's worth the outlay?
If I understand correctly, the maximum qualifying years for state pension is 30 years which would mean 2030 if I made full contributions, or 2031 taking the missing year into account. I would be 53 years old by that time so probably well before a normal retirement age of 66 years or more.
By the above logic it seems like it would only be worth making the top up payment in the unlikely event that I would be out of work for more than 13 years before I reach 66; and presumably even if I were to be I could still top up the later missing years at that point in time. Can anyone advise if there is some other reason to make the payment that I am missing?
Thanks.

That's correct! I think there might be something else to do with JSA (but extra JSA?) as well but uncertain about that.0

yes, and if you are eventually short of years, you could pay to make up some of the last few years. which would give a much quicker payback than buying a year now, when you're about 35 years away from getting the state pension.0
