Cheap venues in Southport / North Liverpool?

Hello!
I'm a new poster here and hope some of you may be able to give me some help? We've been engaged for about 7 years but for various reasons then didn't have the money to get married. We're now planning on moving from Yorkshire to the Southport area and would love to then get married. So with a view to making long term plans and saving up (awful credit, can't borrow a banana let alone any money :rotfl:) can anyone suggest any cheap venues in the Southport or North Liverpool area? Thinking late afternoon wedding then evening disco and buffet, so no sit down meal. The only proviso is we would need some accommodation on site for elderly relatives and small children who would be travelling to the wedding.
TIA!
Janny

Hi! Congratulations and welcome to the forums!
I'm from the Southport area too and have been planning my wedding for quite a while (seems like forever!) and have visited lots of different venues in Southport, so hopefully can be of some help!
What kind of budget are you looking at (roughly)? That will help narrow down your search a little.
Here's a few 'cheaper' options which I came across when looking:
Prince of Wales Hotel, Lord Street, Southport http://www.britanniahotels.com/hotels/prince-of-wales-southport/weddings/
From what I remember packages were around the £1,500-£2,000 mark (including a meal in day and buffet at night, so may be cheaper if you just want a late one).
Royal Clifton Hotel, the Promenade, Southport
http://www.royalclifton.co.uk/default.asp?page=all-inclusive-wedding-package
Their package is £2,750 and includes loads. Again, you may be able to knock this down further if you don't want to big day meal. A friend of mine is getting married there later this year and is just having a late wedding and BBQ - so thats an option.
Scarisbrick Hotel, Lord Street, Southport
http://www.britanniahotels.com/hotels/southport-scarisbrick/
Again, had some good deals when I was looking although this was before Britannia took it over so not sure what it has now.
Can't vouch for any of the above I'm afraid, not been to any weddings there (yet) but definitely might be worth a look if thats what you are looking for?
And they're all hotels, so lots of acommodation for your family!
Hope that helps! Good luck!0 -
I grew up in Southport and went to a friend's wedding at the Clifton Hotel 18 months ago and it was lovely (although hers was meal and evening reception only as she had a church ceremony). The Clifton is nice as it is opposite Princes Park/ Marine Lake so guests can go out for a wander, plus it's lovely for photos.
I know my friend also looked around the Prince of Wales, but was put off by really poor attitude by the staff (for example, arranging an appt to view and the person not turning up). The Scarisbrick also hasn't got a great reputation tbh- it's right in the centre of Lord Street and also has a cocktail bar so is a bit tacky IMO.
The other central hotels in Southport are the Vincent (posh, but probably over budget) and the Ramada which is a new one on Marine Lake (and I know nothing about it). If any guests need cheap accommodation there's also a premier inn at the Ocean Plaza which is easily walkable from any of the town centre hotels.0 -
thank you! my sister got married at the Scarisbrick a few years ago so I'm wary of having a copycat wedding :rotfl: Also she spent nearer £5k which is way too much for us but I guess she had lots of extras...
I hadn't thought of the Prince of Wales, just assumed it would be too expensive so that's interesting to know it's not that dear. Our budget would be no higher than £1500 max.
We looked at the CHET centre in Little Crosby too having been to a lovely wedding there but it was too expensive for us and plus I would like a bar on site not a bring your own.0 -
Would definitely consider looking at Prince of Wales and the Royal Clifton then, they had some packages around that amount and I'm sure if you're not wanting the full sit down meal thing then prices could be negotiated.
Drove past the Scarisbrick yesterday and they had a sign outside saying wedding offers from £999, but as you said, if your sister got married there then you probably wouldn't want to as well.
The packages at the Ramada are £4,000+, and the Vincent probably the same. Can't think of anywhere else I'm afraid.0 -

Reviving an old thread here. I'm the OP and we've moved over (to Formby) and are finally definitely getting married. :j We've decided on a registry office wedding with just parents and siblings present then we'll have an informal party (ie buffet not sit down meal) for wider family and friends. So we no longer need a reception venue with a marriage licence - just an alcohol and dancing licence
Out budget is £1500 all in max for the do (not including reg office fees, dress etc) and we need somewhere family friendly as there will be quite a few small children and we also *must* have some accommodation on site as my grandparents are very frail and need to be able to go for a lie down if necessary.
Any and all suggestions are welcome, Prince of Wales and Clifton a bit swish for us and I don't quite know where to start!!0 -
I had a friend who married at Fleetwood Towns football club in the players lounge 'Jims Bar' she was on a budget might be worth checking out?0
