national express from gatwick north terminal

Hi,
I've posted this in the overseas holidays forum too, but maybe this is a more appropriate place?
Looking for a bit of advice - I have a relative flying in on Turkish airlines into Gatwick next week. He is not a British citizen, he has a Turkish passport (and relevant visas) so will be going through the non-EU immigration line when he arrives.
I know he can get a National Express coach from North terminal, which is apparently just outside the international arrivals area. From what I can see Turkish airlines lands and departs from North terminal.
So, my question is, how long should it take from his plane arrival time to getting through immigration, baggage collection, and reaching the national express departure point, to catch his coach? 2 hours? longer? Sorry to ask, but I have no clue about Gatwick airport, never been there. And obviously if his coach fare can be booked in advance it will be cheaper.
If it can't really be judged (the time it will take I mean) will there be any problem just paying for the fare for the national express on the bus?

It seems you have to pay the difference in fare plus a 5 pound charge. They suggest allowing at least 1h 30 from landing to getting out.0 -

Have you already booked the National Express coach? If not then please be aware that it is often cheaper to slip the tickets, i.e instead of buying a London Gatwick to Birmingham you could buy a London Gatwick > London > Birmingham saving a small fortune (if booked in advance that is!)0 -
