Hello all.
Just sorting out all the food in the chest freezer that hasn't been eaten over Christmas/New Year period so i can meal plan what I need to buy when doing weekly shop end of week.
BUT have just found a frozen turkey, which I remember buying when they were reduced after Christmas last year
(2011!!!). Will this still be safe to eat, once defrosted and cooked after being stored for so long, or should I throw it out?
What is the general rule for poultry and meat joints storage wise?
Many thanks for any help you can give me x

If you are thinking of throwing it out, throw it my way.
As long as it has been kept frozen, I see no reason not to eat it.I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.0 -
It should be safe to eat (assuming it was fine when it went into the freezer
).
I think three months is generally the recommended limit for food stored in the freezer, but this is because the texture and taste can be affected if food is stored too long, and doesn't relate to food safety.NSD May 1/150 -
Thanks both of you for your quick replies.
Bought it cos I love turkey, but wanted to wait a while after last Christmas because others were sick of it, and then have obviously forgotten about it!
Will defrost it thoroughly in a week or 2, and see how it smells, and if it smells ok, will cook it.
Thanks again.0
