Hi everyone,
I’m new to the forum – so hello and look forward to chatting to you!
I got engaged over Christmas – hooray! But already I’m feeling very overwhelmed by the choice (and cost!) of wedding venues.
We have quite a high number of people that we want to have at the ceremony and at the reception, with some additional guests for the evening reception too (maybe 70-80 for the ceremony, going up to 120+ for the evening do). Ideally I’d like the ceremony and reception to be in the same place, somewhere in or around the Manchester or Cheshire area (I live in south Manchester). To keep costs down, I would like to find somewhere where we can bring external caterers in and also bring our own supply of alcohol. A few people have said this is a good way to keep costs down but I’m struggling to find anywhere where you can bring your own catering and drinks (without paying a fortune on corkage!). I also want it to look fairly attractive/be in a nice place – although I don’t mind if it’s a ‘blank canvas’ as we can dress it up and put our own stamp on it.
Do any such places exist, or am I living in cuckoo land??
Any advice or suggestions would be extremely gratefully received!
Thank you x

Hi there,
How about the Victoria Baths? Stunning, unusual venue, and you can bring your own caterers, but you wouldn't be able to have the ceremony there legally. There was a great wedding featured there on Love My Dress recently - I can't post the link but if you google 'Love My Dress Victoria Baths' it's the Vintage 78 DJs post. Looked fab!
Hope that helps!0 -
oh actually you can have the ceremony there - just checked! It's on their website under venue hire. You'd have to move quick though as they are almost fully booked for 2013!0

Try Siddington Village Hall in Cheshire - we were going to have our reception there but are now getting married in Cheshire. You pay hire costs for the whole weekend but get to totally DIY yourself and it has it's own field and is in an old victorian school. Nice boating lake nearby too.Aiming to be debt free by December 2016!

lilmissthrifty, i know this is a very long time after your post, but you don't by any chance still have contact details for Siddington Village hall do you? I've been trying to get hold of someone to have a look around as a potential venue and had no luck getting though on the numbers online! Any help much appreciated!0

Contact the Council Parish Clerk they should be able to help or look on notice boards for clubs etc which use the Hall on then pop along and ask them for contact details. Why pay full price when you may get it YS0

Is the monastery self-catering? I remember going there to a conference a few years ago and thinking that the venue was absolutely stunning!Due to get married in 2014. :grinheart
