  • Glad to hear you're making progress, one step at a time! Any luck on finding extra sources of income?

  • Sorry forgot to add - you mentioned your mobile phone cost 46 a month and that you couldn't change that as you were in contract - my mobile phone is in contract but I was still able to log onto my account on their (o2) website recently and reduce my tariff, saving me over a tenner a month - surely you're able to reduce your mobile tariff whilst still keeping the contract?

I sent off an application for ESA which I'm waiting back on. So far, have sent off many applications, have had two interviews, but no luck.

Still trying to stay positive. It'll work out!

I have not had the contract that long. Have phoned EE and asked about reducing it, but it's not possible apparently. :(

What sort of jobs are you looking for? From my perspective you do not have a debt problem, you have an income problem. It is great you can live with your mum, and you are still young. The debt seems big at the moment, but if you can get any sort of job you can pay off that debt in a year.

Online applications and CVs just get lost in the ether. The best way to get a job is through personal contacts. Can you visit any places directly and ask to speak to a manager? Perhaps you can volunteer as well, it will help to keep you busy and will be great for interviews.

    anyway, good luck.

    Hi Linkblue

I don't really have any practical advice to give you, other than whats been said on here already. Just wanted to say well done to you for facing up to your debts and tackling them. If its any consolation, at least you have recognised that you have a problem at a young age ( no disrespect, wish I was that again) and hopefully this is all a valuable life's lesson.
Please don't think I'm being patronising, I'm not. I wish I had recognised that I had a problem many years ago instead of waiting till I'm nearly 50 !!
I can see that your doing everything you can to improve your situation and it will get better and I wish you every success in becoming debt free.
  • If you are fit for work you should be claiming JSA not ESA.
  • I'm with Orange / EE and I told them my tariff was too much, they said it is possible to downgrade one tariff - this might only save £5 a month but every little will help. Also I waited a few months and tried it again, they wouldn't downgrade it again however they gave me unlimited minutes for no extra charge. Just keep trying!
  • It might be worth walking into every bar, restaurant and shop in your local area and asking if they need any part time staff. I've found bar work that way, and while it can be exhausting, it's generally a lot of fun, gets you out of the house and if you have a good team, can be really enjoyable.

You might find a couple of shifts here and there from more than one place, and earn enough to tide you over until you find a permanent role.

    Best of luck x

I have a disability that means unfortunately I cannot do some jobs. I thought this means I'm be under ESA instead of JSA. I'll call the job centre and find out. :)

I tried calling them recently but they were not budging. I guess I can call back and keep pestering them. :D

Will do this, thanks! I've got a few days work with a friend next week. Every little helps!

Sitting around the house is slowly eating away at me. As I cannot afford to pay my lovely mother in rent, I know she wanted the bathroom decorated, so I've gone and got some paint and looking at YouTube tutorials on how to use a paint brush.

If nothing, I'm learning a new skill, as I've never picked up a paint brush, hammer or screwdriver in my life.

She's skeptical how it'll turn out. I have to reassure her that it can't get any worse... or can it?:rotfl:
