Refused credit don't know why???

I have been turned down several times for credit cards- even the ones that help repair credit

I decided to get a credit report on myself

When I got it back there was nothing on it adverse so why do I keep getting refused???
Is no credit history just as bad as bad history ??????

You have to start somewhere right????

I am on electoral register so its not that

My bank recently upgraded my account and was told it would help my credit rating - but when I applied for bank credit card THEY REFUSED ME !!!!!!! Got me thinking they upgraded my account so they could charge me monthly fees !!!!

Would appreciate any help from anybody that had similar problems an what they did

thanks in advance

Yes........... no credit history is just as bad as having a bad credit history.

Also applying for several cards in a short space of time won't have helped much either.

So I'm afraid your in a catch 22 situation.

However, in my experience I have managed to start a credit history off with a catalogue. You only get a small credit limit of say £200 to £400 pounds. And obviously things are more expensive. But I just ordered no more than £100 at a time, paid it off regularly and on time and went from there really.

Might not work for you and prehaps someone else might have another suggestion but it worked for me.

    Good Luck

prepaid credit cards are not the same and wouldnt give u a track record, although catalogues dont have the best reputation they are a good starting point if you are sensible, i certainly did use them for exactly that and got me the credit i wanted
    For everthing else there's mastercard.
    For clampers there's Barclaycard.
  • cheers for that

might give catalogue route a whirl

any one else got any credit building ideas???

have recently gone on contract phone from pre pay so that should help in future (as long as i pay it of course!!!)

    thanks again

Hi, I'm (sort of) in the same position of building up my credit history after years of having none ...

I've started off with a contract mobile from T-Mobile and a cash order account from a catalogue (it reports monthly conduct even though I didn't have a credit limit :D).

Since then (only a couple of months) I've now got a Next account and have just opened a new A&L bank account who report monthly conduct(my current bank doesn't).

Thing is I don't actually want any credit but I want a credit history ... so if I ever do need to take out a loan or a mortgage then I can.

Hi, I'm v v new on here so bear with me pls! I'm in more or less the same position. I've had no credit in the past 10 years and have been turned down by one of the 30%+ credit card companies. So I got copies of my credit file... no debts BUT I do have several searches that are work related. The company I work for has several off-shoots and they all have their own bank accounts as I'm a signatory they search my file. So in the past 12 months I've got 5 searches only one of them being mine (the credit card I was turned down for). Would I be right in thinking these work related searches may hurt my credit history?

Thanks for the catalogue tip btw I may try that in moderation :-) btw I'm looking to get a mortgage in the next year or so hence my sudden interest in my credit history - well I want a good rate don't I?!!

How are they designated? ie what is the "search type"?

If they're 'ID verification', 'Generic ID Check', 'ID Money Laundering' entries then they will be classed as 'Unrecorded Enquiries' (which cannot affect credit applications you make because they are not seen by lenders when they search your file).

They are said to be "Initial credit application search (or combination with ID)"

    Thanks

I might add I'm also the Company Secretary incase that makes a difference as to whether they'd search my credit history??

I would be concerned by those. I suggest you contact the CRA's and ask them directly.
