Computer won't load in Normal mode

Hi Guys
I have a Windows XP home desktop tower, and it won't load in normal mode.
It loads in safe mode, but thats it
I have tried a system restore, this doesn't work, as it restarts to complete, and as it doesn't load into safe mode, it doesn't work. Then, once this fails, I load it into safe mode again, and it tells me system restore has failed.
I have tried registry repair programs, and I have tried setting it to load in selective startup in msconfig, but this doesn't work either.
Can anybody suggest anything, besides a full install?
Thanks

Regular savers earn 6% interest (HSBC, First Direct, M&S)
Loans cost 2.9% per year (Nationwide) = FREE money.

I have just read somewhere that there is a repair option for XP home, could that be worth a shot? Will it delete any data?Live for what tomorrow has to bring, not what yesterday has taken away0

Do you have the original XP Home disc?
Is your copy of XP actually genuine?
Do you have the COA? (For the Product Key)
Can you access Safe Mode With Networking?
What are your system Spec's? (Motherboard make & model No., Hard Drive type & size, RAM/anything else about your system)
If it is not a genuine copy of Windows, I cannot help you, sorry.I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

If you have the original CD you can use it to repair the Windows installation.
Set your PC to boot from CD :
Restart your computer. As it does so, right a the start, keep pressing the "DEL" key until yuo get the BIOS (CMOS) screen up. Using the keys, find the page with boot sequence on and change the 1st boot device to CDROM, the second to hard drive.
Press f10 and choose "Y" to save the changes. Make sure the XP CD is in the CD drive and it should boot from that - it may ask you to press a key to do so.
Let it do all its loading thing and eventually you get the option to repair a Windows installation, follow the instructions.
Once done, take the CD out and reboot.0 -

The clue is that it is Windows XP Home. Non genuine installations are almost certainly Professional.0 -
I used tip number three from here http://news.cnet.com/8301-13554_3-9750693-33.html. many years ago and it worked, you will have to get into "Safe Mode with Command Prompt" if you can.0
