I owe the council £800 the council wanted me to pay the lump sum tomorrow!! I am so worried about this as I dont want to end up in jail for council tax debt. I did offer the council £150 per month but they werent interested. Any advice please.

Hi,
Yes you must include your c/tax arrears on the petition.
Your not going to prison, and after tomorrow you will not be responsible for paying any of your debts, including your c/tax arrears.

The council tax debt is not on the petition the reason being when i spoke to the council tax office they informed me that I couldnt include it. I have had my SOA and petition typed, should I add the council tax debt by hand or speak to the OR when I have my interview. I have the letter from the council showing how much is owed.:eek:Lost in space🚀0

I would add it to the paperwork by hand.
I can assure you that the council representative was 100% wrong. I presume that the council have demanded full payment at some point?
Good luck tomorrow.

You must!--unless you have the funds to clear the arrears..

Presumably you have had a council tax reminder that you failed to pay within 7 days and/or the council have already issued a court summons ?I no longer work in Council Tax Recovery but instead work as a specialist Council Tax paralegal assisting landlords and Council Tax payers with council tax disputes and valuation tribunals. My views are my own reading of the law and you should always check with the local authority in question.0 -
Yes I have been sent a reminder, I have looked at my SOA and there is no room to put the council tax debt on my petition. Should I speak to the court clerk in the morning and advise them of the debt or wait till I speak to the OR? The last thing I want to dois mess up the petition by writing where I shouldn't be.Lost in space🚀0
