I have just taken over an allotment plot that was overgrown and hadn't been dug for some time going by the amount of perennial weed roots present, for some reason quite a few allotmenteers on the site are not in favour of deep digging and I have even been told that by growing produce it will keep the weeds down, maybe once the veg gets to a decent size it will bully annual weeds out but I doubt that lettuce seedlings would be any match for a rampant dock or nettle plant if left to its own devices. Anyhow to get to the point, while digging I have noticed loads of slug and snail eggs deep in the soil and whilst all of these wouldn't survive I suspect that we will be in for a bumper invasion of these slimy pests just as we are starting to transplant our salad and brassicas out, so it may be wise to start making plans for the fight ahead. I was even considering constructing a pool in the hope of encouraging frogs and newts onto the plot.0

A pool is an excellent idea.
Ours was very over grown too. We only dug half of it but it took us hours as the weeds were huge and roots at least 3 foot deep. I am not in work until the 7th so providing the rain holds off I will be digging it all or at least half of it.Make £10 a day in January £0/£310

Last year was rubbish for all of us.If that was you first year, please please don't give up its not usually that bad, honestly

However, not to have grown anything at all is very bad. What sort of things did you try and what did you do?
