Quick DMP question...please help

Options
Hi

For anyone who is or has been in a DMP...is it always the case that you will get default notices on your account and get County Court Orders etc? Sending off my papers to CCCS today and will be missing this months payment to creditors and will be writing to them. DMP due to start in one months time and not behind with any payments currently. So is is still likely? Please let me know your experiences on this for a bot of possible peace of mind as I am, to apologise for the term, crapping myself. Thanks.

It is almost always the case that you will receive default notices on your accounts as soon as you break the terms of your contract, ie not paying the agreed monthly minimum repayments. These defaults will then stay on your credit files for 6 years from date of issue. You are far less likely to receive CCJs (although not impossible) as long as you and/or CCCs keep the creditors informed of the progress of your DMP & keep to the new payment terms that have been agreed between you.

After two years nearly in a DMP I've received no defaults yet. I've had a few payments classed as missed on my credit file but that is it. I didn't miss any payments going into my DMP I called as soon as I realised I was in trouble. It was the first few pyaments on the DMP that got registered as missed payments as it takes a while for the creditors to catch on.
Even if they do default you it's not the end of the world, I'm sure you'll feel much better when it's all up and running. There will be phone calls at first but these go away after a while. You don't have to talk to them, if you do just refer them to CCCS with your client number when they bug you for more money. I would keep your creditors informed in writing each step of the way, most are happy if you take a proactive role in your DMP and CCCS are only a phone call away to help you.

I've had one default and only one creditor, AMEX, took me to Court. They got judgement on the full amount but I applied to have this varied to the amount I had offered and was already paying them and was successful. They only negotiated via a solicitor - Americans playing hard ball I guess.
    I'm doing a self-managed DMP.
  • I'm on DMP with Payplan - we've had 2 defaults (both Egg) as a matter of course I'm told and Arrow card decided to play nasty and have issued a CCJ -everyone else appears to have been okay so far.

Sending out letters today to get Halifax & Citi to agree to stop interest and charges otherwise we'll never pay them off - will wait and see what reply I get.

I know how you're feeling - keep your chin up!

Proud to be dealing with my debits although I have to admit I am scared half to death at how big a mess we are in.  Don't think I will EVER forgive myself for being so stupid!

I know the question wasn't to me but Citi responded very quickly to my offer and have been fine, Halifax took a little longer but have been okay.
