Don't forget many libraries offer free access to Ancestry, even more of a bargain!
Does that include members connect though do you know?

From memory you are limited to what you can do in the library, they only have a part version of Ancestry - still good though for getting started before you pay out for full membership

I love Ancestry and would be lost without it. On Saturday I spoke to my cousin who I never knew existed, and found loads out about a side of my family we never knew. We are keeping in touch and sending photos back and forth, so worth every penny to me :D

I found my Mum's cousin on there and found out so much information and lots of photos I had never seen including one of my Granddad who I had never seen or any photos as I wasn't brought up by my Mum after age three.

    It is exciting isn't it!

Thanks I used to have membership but can't really afford it anymore.

Would like to connect to some members trees though.

No, but try https://www.mundia.com ( it is provided by ancestry.com and has member trees on it and you can contact them)

Thanks a lot for that x

I usually buy a Family Tree Maker program with 6 months premium subscription each time. They are normally knocked down to half price or less when a new version is due out. Ive just got another on amazon with 6 months sub for less than £30. Absolute bargain even if you never use the new program

Make sure you get a programme with the premium or world wide sub though, the basic essentials is a bit ropey with fewer records.

Apparently there is no new 2013 edition planned but rather numerous improvements to the 2012 edition:
Ancestry.com normally announces the newest version of Family tree Maker around this time of the year. Instead we have decided to make several key updates to the existing software, and give those updates away for free. We will be working hard this year to improve the current product and you will see these bonus features throughout the year.
Remember, you will need to upgrade to Family Tree Maker 2012 before you can download the bonus features.

Anyone know if I as I am on a mac I have to buy a mac edition to just use the 6 months trial if I buy a platinum family tree maker? Not interested in the software just want the membership.

Not absolutely certain on that one, but my recollection is that you can only get the trial if you actually run the program - not just a question of a code in the box.

I could be wrong, but I'd certainly not risk a PC edition unless you can get specific confirmation on the point. :)
