Lasagna white sauce

Hiya all i was wondering if any one had any alternatives to the white sauce in lasagna as i really dont like it but not sure if i can just make one without it or maybe make a tasty alternative?

    Lots of american recipes use ricotta or a mix of cottage/cream cheese and eggs. I personally find these heavier and stodgy but you may prefer if you don't like white sauce.

    Are you scratch mkaing your sauce? If not this could be the problem - it really is much nicer hm.

    I make a light cheese sauce, basic white sauce and then add grated cheese a bit at a time till it tastes right.

    A friend once made lasagne for us with a mushroom sauce - I believe it was just mushrooms chopped small and cooked with seasonings, then added cream to make a sauce. It was yum!

  • If making your own white sauce try replacing half of the milk you would use with the same volume of chicken stock. This makes a fantastic tasting sauce and with less calories as an added bonus. We use this sauce for carbonara and cauliflower cheese as well.
    I am playing all of the right notes just not necessarily in the right order :D.

    we made one last week with creme fraiche instead and it made the whole dish alot lighter than normal lasagne

    Loads of great alternatibes here already. Ill merge with white sauce later
