Charge for using Debit Card

Is this still legal?
I was just in a shop, I got to the counter and produced my debit card, just to be told that there was a "25p charge for using a debit card for under £6"!
I walked out. I don't accept that. I thought it was illegal. Is it not?

I just can't abide by that kind of nonsense. It's greed, IMO.0

At least they told you first. They are simply trying to recoup the charges they have to pay the card processors. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0
