Monday New Years Eve! - what small things will you be doing today?

Options
When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending.

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important. :money:

Hello everyone! Need to get my skates on today so I thought I'd get the thread up.

Pernie - Kenya is indeed a great place for safari. I went to Masai Mara with my mum last year and it was ridiculous, we saw the big 5 within half an hour of entering the park! You'll want to time it with the wildebeast migration if you can. Depending on the pirate situation when you go you can also make a trip to Lamu for some island paradise, and of course soak up the night life in Nairobi.

Went to the gym for the first time in ages yesterday and now everything I have hurts!

Today for me:
- breakfast from leftovers
- drop by police station to check on status of report for the stolen bikes
- go to different police post to take my driving test (ha)
- lunch with friends who have been feeding me constantly this week, om nom nom!
- eat some more leftovers before going to NYE party at a friends, and bring some beer
- check banking and update budget
- see if lawyer is in and if so go drop off cash for lawsuit so that can move in the new year
- pay gardener

Happy new year to all!

  • Morning All,

Well I haven't posted for ages, but have been lurking and reading with great interest and have spent the last few days, planning next year's budget and cutting back to pay off debts.

So here goes for last day of 2012:

    Today I have/will:

    Checked banking
    Updated budget spreadsheet
    Feed pets
Heating off/on low most of day
Do a T*sco shop & use £6 voucher and stick to list
    - HAVE GONE AGAINST PRINCIPLES AS THINK T*SCO ARE THE D*VIL IN DISGUISE, but am saving vouchers for DS2 to go to Legoland - things we do for our children!
    Tackle mountain of ironing :o
DCs & me make birthday card for my mum
Make cake for mum's birthday (tomorrow)
    Check DS1s school lunch account

    Play board game with children
    B/L/D from stores
    Update meal planner
Hang washing on airer in bathroom
Walk dog if it EVER stops raining!

Had a mini brain wave last night (they don't happen often!;))
    - my V*rgin mobile contract ends mid Jan so thought I will try and change it to PAYG to save me £.

Has anyone else done this? Can I keep my phone if my contracts ended and just ask for PAYG set up or do I need new sim card and no. Would rather keep my no.

Have a great NY Eve everyone. Ours will be in (have 3 DCs) watching Jools on the TV as usually with a glass or two of something sparkley! :rotfl:

I'm going around the house looking for 'dark things' about to do some washing.
Got to write a birthday card and take it for my Sister (not the one i've had a big fall-out with, the younger one)
Need to climb up into the loft, a slate came off the roof and the rain was dripping so as a temporary measure until after the holiday i put a couple of old sheets under it. Need to see what they're like.
Then have a hoover up around the house.
Finally and most importantly i'll check my PoF account and see if some woman who has had a lousy Christmas wants a dead nice new fella for the New Year.

    • Don't smoke - Day 80:T Well done you! Still struggling here.
    • Write various "to do" lists for 2013 ;) (I love lists:)) Me too!! Were we separated at birth?

    Right today's list....
    • Staying in tonight so no extra spends there - haven't been out on NYE since before the millenium
    • Trying to have a NSD -don't need anything but that never really stops me:o
    • Walking dog in gales:(
    • Having a go at a Tae Bo video for some free exercise
    • Sticking to diet - now down 3lbs since Boxing Day - all water retention and a teeny bit of flab but I want to get back to my pre Xmas weight ASAP (nearly there now, 1 lb to go)
    • Mark the remainder of a set of books I started yesterday - the worst job in the world
That's about it for today - happy new year to all!
  • Good luck with the driving test! I passed mine on NYE. Actually, 10 years ago today! Hadn't realised! Need to renew my licence, I think!
  • Morning all!

Nottoobadyet - thanks for starting the thread

Still not feeling great after the rent revelation so I'm going to get out the house today in the hopes that some fresh air will improve my brain.

RFTA and WW - I have been mentally composing lists for 2013 of goals and thoughts, but the result is my brain is now full and upset. Need to get lists out of brain and on to paper I think. Possibly post list on here on AsiaCat's 2013 thread.

    Today's list:

Get some new bras using my Christmas and birthday Bravissimo vouchers

Try to swap pot of Body Shop night cream received as present for day cream

Get soda crystals and cleaning wipes (exciting huh?)

Look in fabric shop for fabric to make a sofa throw

    Browse Waterstones with my voucher

Check online banking (all good - well, normal at least :rotfl:)

B/L from stores. We are out at a NYE dinner/band thing at a pub near us. All paid for with our Christmas money :T

Possibly make the soup I have been thinking about making for over a week now :o (who am I kidding?)

Have a good one everyone. xx

Morning everyone. Rubbish day yesterday. Sickness and diarrhoea confined me to bed for the whole day. Had the heating on all day, as well as two quilts on the bed (and my dressing gown on), but was still freezing.

I still haven't managed to eat anything, but I have managed a cup of coffee this morning.

Need to pop to the shops today, but will walk to a) save petrol and b) hopefully ensure that don't buy more than I need. Its too easy to shove a few extra things in the trolley when you know that you can just chuck them in the boot of the car to get them home.
Debt free since December 2015. It can be done

  • Morning guys  happy NY's eve :D thanks for the kick off NTBY hope your plans for seeing out 2012 are fun!

Carrie I guess I missed what has upset you so much? Hope that now you have a plan things seem brighter. I read somewhere recently that there is no worry or problem that has ever been solved by worrying about it! Makes sense huh?

Karb  hope you're feeling better! Lovely to see you hope you saw the boys over xmas. My brother split up with his wife last year and its been so hard for him not being with his kids every day x

sailorsam I'm sure there are loads of women who want a lovely man! They say its all in the advertising :rotfl:

hahaha newlyfrugal - they are your principals and you can change them at will to suit your needs :rotfl:

Well my things for today include:

    * checking banking (remind oh about this week's rent?)
    * all meals from stores - freezer dive for pork curry and christmas dinner soup mmmm
    * 1st coat white paint on last wall & cutting in again
    * 2nd & 3rd coat of oil on worktop
    * find some way of getting the 3 mtr worktop in the house as it is too heavy for me to lift! & give it its 1st coat
    * put more dust sheet on floor to protect it from painting!
    * chicken out of freezer for dinner tomorrow

That's all for me. Hope you all have a lovely New Year's eve whatever you do x

Morning All, Hope everyone is well.
    So far today I have:
1: Spoken to Sky at length about my Television package after discovering that I was paying them 64.75 a month for a tv service I hardly ever watch although the kids and OH watch it. Got them to bring the bill down to 55 a month and some add ons thrown in as well by threatening to decamp to Virgin!!!! Think they could probably have reduced this by more but am happy with what I got so its a good result in my eyes!!!!

2: Paid Capital One made minimum payment on this but I need to get rid of Payday loan when I get paid on 15th before I can pay more.

3: Paid Barclaycard. Again minimum payment but I won't have to worry about paying them again until February

4: Spoken to my bank and asked them to cancel a direct debit on my account which has suddenly appeared and which I have no idea what its for.

This afternoon I am going to go to the supermarkets just before they close to see if they are reducing things given that they will be shut all day tomorrow.
loobylou2.Proud to be dealing with my debts and aiming to sort out the mess in 2013!!!!
