Hiya
I'm new here. I have decided that this is the year to finally get out of debt. I am married with a 21 month old son.
We have spent our married lives 'finding' old debts and I would love to be debt free, especially as we would like to have more children.
Our debts are one credit card £209.89, two overdrafts £1764.49 and £644.71 and one person £1700.
My initial plan is to pay the person on the credit card then transfer the credit card to a 0% and then throw all the money at it we can.
My husband is self employed which brings a variety of problems and I work 2 days a week.
I hope writing this diary will give me support and advice!

Good morning mse
Today is Nye bit of a none event in my mind but I like the new year fresh start feeling.
Today my husband will call the one person we are in debt with and organise to pay them on the credit card. The plan is to then transfer the balance to a 0% card. All sounds good in theory??
Other news today need to pester the car insurance again. Five weeks ago the car got in a fight with a flood and the flood won, but we are STILL waiting to hear if they are writing it of or fixing it :-( every time you call them they say someone will call today, then nothing.
Anyway that's today, all advice welcome

today has been my first no spend day!! Yay im so proud of me.
I love baking and want hubby to take packed lunches when he goes back this year. So im making some cake slices, the recipes needed plain biscuits so I made them, as I had ingredients in!
Also today we went for a walk up the hills with my dad on his off road mobility buggy fantastic fun.
On the money front me and hubby have sorted out a huge box of DVDs and games to sell, and we are also selling an old games console on behalf of church but that money will of course go straight back to them.
That's all for today back to work tomorrow, plan to pay all the change into the bank on my lunch break.0 -
In work today, which im not jumping for joy at, as my little one has a cough, but he is at home with daddy so he will be happy.
Hoping for another no spend day today, just got to be strong!! am going to pop out of work at lunch time and pay the change into the bank a whole £11.32. Im putting it into my old bank account which im planning on using as my cash in account to then use to pay off debts.
i am holding off paying any money off my credit card yet though, because hubby is going to go and pay the big one person debt off on saturday and then we are going to do a balance transfer to a 0% credit card and then i will start throwing money at it.
We had a big of money for christmas so we have set aside some for my little one's birthday which is in march. We have kept some for the annual buying of new jeans, and then the rest will be going on debts.
oh i remember the days when i was working, lived at home, had no car, paid a miniscule board rate and would easily spend £200 each saturday on junk. if only i had saved all that money. but then again its nice to remember that time.0 -

Have decided not to go into town, dont trust myself not to spend today, sometimes you have that feeling dont you.
So im going to get hubby to drop in the charity stuff tommorrow and ask him to pick up some bank bags (as the change i was going to pay in is just in plastic bags, and i always feel bad at holding up the line).
Just need to not buy anything out of the work snack box! My friend is coming down from upstairs at lunch for me to help her set up her sewing machine, so ill focus on that.
oh and i have rejigged my budget spreadsheet for the new year which helps make a bit more sense.
Here it is. if anyone has any helpful advice/questions they would be most welcome.

Just noticed gas/electric, could you run some comparisons? I know parents did and switched just before Christmas and reduced costs significantly....Lose 1st 7lb

So today has been a MSE fail day. Took my son to the doctors this morning and he has an ear infection, so my emotional heart strings were pulled and I went to the supermarket and bought lots of fruit and custard and cartons to try and get him eating. He has perked up alot since starting the meds.
Also tonight I am taking my youth group out to Nandos, they will pay for themselves bit I will pay for mine so that's another expense :-(
Can I think of any positives? Umm went for a walk, that was free
Thanks for the comments on the budget I was thinking about seeing if sky would do me a better deal if I moved my line rental and phone to them? With the elec/gas we have recently had a smart meter and were paying extra for when we were underpaying so I have got hubby to download the eon app to see if that tells us anymore info0 -
Night out with the youth group was really good and only spend £11 which was less than i thought and the food was really nice!
Today i am at work, but i think i will pop into town finally drop charity shop stuff in and get bank bags. yes i know i was doing that 3 days ago :rotfl:
didnt bring any lunch to work so will have to buy some but have some christmas money with me so it wont come out of the bank account.
Hubby is paying the 'person' payment tommorow, and i cant wait. i hate feeling like this person has a hold on us and could ask things of us because we owe them money .
Onwards and upwards, tired today and wish i was at home. Also sounds awful but i cant wait for hubby to be back at work next week. i feel like im tidying up after two children when he is home!0
