Should I get a "student" mortgage?

Options
Hi. I'm a 22 year old student with 2 years left to go on my course. I *want* to buy a 2 bedroom flat, and have an inheritance of £20000 to put down as deposit. I'm planning to spend about £80000. I recieve a full student loan, and I also work part-time, bringing in about £500 a month.

I was just hoping that someone who knows what's going on could tell me if this a good idea. I'm worried about payments over my mortgage.

I am fed up with renting, and think that the £200 I spend a month on rent would be better put into something that's mine.
... I want my own little home.

Any advice greatfully recieved!

Don't forget the £200/month rent you could charge a flatmate in the 2nd room!

I paid £250/month rent while I was a student from 96 to 99.  I wish I had got my parents to get a mortgage on a cheap property, paid the £250 into that instead, and either continue to rent after I graduated, or sell up and split the profit with my parents.

A friend did this at the time, and made £100k profit on a 2 bed flat!  A rather nice deposit on the next house.

    Ahhhh hindsight......
