ok..argos are doing a couple for 20 quid, but they are big and hideous. i want something that looks half decent. Saw a great bargain in cash converters, a creative one, 1 gig, new, 30 quid in cc, 60 quid in argos..but i can't afford 30 quid at the min..so heres the question..1 gig or more, decent looking WITH a display (not the memory card sort) HIGH STREET ONLY and under 25 quid. I know its possible!!
...ipod shuffle is now redundant cos its only 512 and ive got too many songs to fit it..and thats just from 1 band! :-s

Fr. Stack: While you were out, I got the keys to your car. And drove it into a big wall. And if you don't like it, tough. I've had my fun, and that's all that matters.

Why not just wait until you can afford the £30 one you liked? There's a few two gig ones in the argos for £25 but I have no idea if you'd think they looked half decent. You could try currys/dixons.
How many songs are you looking to fit on it?Sigless0 -
123 songs, 700mb, hence i need a 1 gig one at least..yeah i can wait, its just noone wants to wait do they!?..if argos are selling them so cheap i would have thought somewhere else would be too..i havent bothered with currys cos they are always overpriced imo.Fr. On the currys website they have some roughly the same price as Argos.
123 songs shouldn't take up anywhere near 700mb. After a lot of research/trial and error when I first got an mp3 player I figured the best encoding was WMA (smaller file sizes than MP3's) at 64kpbs, gives the same sound quality as MP3's or WMA's encoded at higher rates (well obviously there's a difference but it's not noticeable to the average listener) and lets you fit a lot more on. I could easily fit 250+ songs on a 512mb player.
Maybe you should just try encoding your music at a different rate (128kps if MP3 64kbps if WMA)Sigless0 -
some of the songs are live sets..hence the 700mb. i have a 512 mb ipod shuffle. can i get them all one using your method? im not going to spend hours converting over 100 songs :-sFr. I just ran an ebay search for '2GB MP3' and up came 500+ items, most of them admittedly over your £25 limit but quite a few beneath.0

How about this Samsung model from John Lewis (you'll need to ring around the high street to find stock though):

To be fair, you wont know if you'll get them all on until you convert them. Live sets or not, if I can get 250+ songs on a 512mb player I'm sure you can get 123 on there when converted. Either way, converting 123 songs wont take hours at all, unless you're using an archaic system. Although if I remember correctly ipods won't play WMA's anyway, so I may have just completely wasted your time..
Edit, just done a test run out of curiosity and using DBpowerAMP I converted 123 songs in 15 mins 34 seconds.Sigless0 -
Thanks but the samsung is 30 quid and pixmania is online. i really want to get one today if its poss..ive rules out the wma thing as im sick of the shuffle ~(even if it did support it) as it hasnt got a display. id be very grateful if anyone has seen one for less than 25 quid high streetFr. I'd still consider converting for the new MP3 player, save yourself space. Most none apple players support WMA. Good luck in the search.Sigless0
