organic or not. Can you tell?

I think this site is very ambiguous. My dd got a special offer box and most of it was defrosted, She thought the meat was organic. I say it wasn`t and only the boxes specified as organic are organic. What do you think?

I am not happy on 2 counts ie the ambiguity and the fact that the meat arrived de-frosted

I get fish from martins seafresh and it is always still frozen so it can be done

I agree with you, it is ambiguous - I wouldn't want to assume that the meat is organic. It might just be that they haven't done their website very thoroughly and have only marked some foods specifically as organic, but as you say, there's no reason to assume that everything is organic as it isn't marked as such.

I would definitely phone and complain about it being defrosted though, that's not good enough.

I'm sure you're not allowed to use the Soil Association symbol unless your product is organic. It seems clear that all the meat is certified organic except the bacon. That may well be as near as dammit organic. Lots of producers can't use the Soil Association symbol because they're in the process of going organic -it takes a while. My quinces are organic because I haven't sprayed them etc, but I couldn't sell them as 'organic' because I'm I haven't got the necessary certification. I don't sell them btw -just an example ;)

I think buying organic beef and lamb is a waste of time (especially lamb) as it isn't intensively reared.

I would agree with thrift lady - I think that some of it is organic and others are not labelled as organic becasue they are in the process of going organic iyswim. There are stringent regualtions about it and farmers can struggle a bit to get to the stage where they can get it certified.

on the other hand I buy organic lamb and beef and would disagree with thrift lady about whether its worth it. I find that I dont have to buy as much becasue they dont add the water ( 10 - 15%) and it tastes so much better. I had new zealand lamb one week ( non organic ) and organic lamb the next and everyone agreed on which one was the best, btw I didnt tell them which was which.

I agree about the NZ lamb Pudding -I'd never buy foreign lamb because we produce it in this country (I'd buy it if I lived in NZ though ;) ) I'm sure you're right about supermarket meat having extra water, but if you buy from a quality butcher (as I do) who can tell you where the meat has come from then I think non-organic lamb and beef is as good as organic :)

I dont think they exist up here lol

lst time I went to a proper butchers ( reknowned for quality) I paid far more than I would have for the organic I was going to buy. So since then I have stuck with the organic.
