I'm currently trying to decide whether to order some good quality organic meat from a local supplier, which is double the cost of my local butcher or supermarkets, but if it tastes better then maybe I can get away with using less and bulking up the veg/carb options"An Ye Harm None, Do What Ye Will"

I always buy free range organic if I can get hold of it. Free range is a prerequisite, as it tastes a heck of lot better than intensively farmed meat, which tends to be bland and tasteless. Perhaps the fillet steak you bought was from an intensively farmed animal?
Fillet steak is expensive because it is a relatively small muscle that is sought after by foodies like myself.
Try buying cheaper cuts of meat and slow cooking them. Much nicer than buying crap supermarket meat.0 -
hello pal
I love steak and I get the cheapo argentinian stuff when they have it in tesco and it tastes pretty good to me flash fried with some grilled mushrooms and a good mustard. mmmmm.
but I hear what you're saying about the free range less fiddled with meat too - I'll let you know what I think when I manage to get some from the reduced chillerBlah0 -
Hi.
I regularily get large chunks of Scottish rump steak from Costco. Reckon on on paying between £35 and £40 (£6.49 a kilo) and it's first class steak! It gets sliced up into resonable sized steaks of approx 300 grams (12oz) and I get around 20 steaks out of the piece .. plus a bag of leftovers bit which I use for stroganoff or fajitas.
My OH is a carnivore so this saves me lots!HLK

They do organic meat, free delivery over £50 if you are in NN or MK postcodes and for the rest of the country free delivery over £100 or £5 del over £50.
Just checked they do half a whole lamb for just over £70, its Welsh Organic Lamb.
