council recycling

Options
hm not sure how to word this so here goes.last year we paid quite a bit of money to to have our back garden fenced in and slabbed(how we wanted it).sorted eveything out and even had a little piece partioned off to hide the bin.we were chuffed to death with it and spent as much time in it as poss.then along comes our local council(who really listen to what you have to say)and told us that we are now in a recycling area so we have to have a big green bin and a poxy little tub for bottles and cans.i explained to the fella that called that i didn,t need the bin as i had nowt to put into it but he said that every house had to have one,i said well thats just a waste of a bin but he didn,t care(think his middle name was jobsworth).i now have a lovely back garden with a bloody horrible green bin sticking out like a sore thumb.we only live 2 minutes from our local amenities center so we were already recycling anyway.thats the background now two questions spring to mind has anyone sucsessfully returned thier green bin or can i charge the council rent for storing it here. sorry for the rant but we both worked damn hard to get the garden how we wanted it.

Wait for a really windy night and then next morning, complain to all your neighbours that the bin has disappeared.

Should the council ever come to you and ask where the bin has gone, you can explain that you simply don't know as no doubt somebody picked it up to prevent it becoming a traffic hazard.

In the interval, I'll PM you my address and you can send it to me - they make really good storage bins for all kinds of garden stuff such as potting compost and empty plastic plant pots!

(As a matter of fact, here in windy Lincolnshire, this is happening all the time and now many of my neighbours just put their recycling stuff out in any old cardboard box so it won't be something your council have never heard of.)

You could do what I did. I put the little bins (cans and paper) in my normal wheelie bin and the bin men took them away!!!

It was accident (honest), I put them in there because of the gales we were having and only remembered after I had put the wheelie bin out. I expected the bin men to pull them out but they didn't.

Got them replaced and now use them in the garage as bottle and other storage boxes. I'm sure they would also make excellent loft storage boxes too ;-)

    Dave

I managed to get Bradford Council to take away my black bin. We get an entire black wheelie bin just for paper!

Even with three of us in the house we were not filling it and I was really worried about people going through the bin looking for personal details. I called them and they collected it without too much complaint.

    Good Luck

If you lived where I do. You just have to leave the wheelie bin out a bit to long on bin day and they grow legs and walk never to be seen ever again!
  • "missing bins" are charged at £38 in our neck'o'woods.

we now have 3 wheelybins (grey for normal waste, blue for recycling and green for garden waste) and expecting a plastic trug for bottles soon. When we were given the last one, a green one for garden waste a number of my neighbours declined it and they didnt have to have one.

We have a little fenced area for our wheelie bin as it's a terraced house so bin is in the front unfortunately.

We started with 1 wheelie bin, then got a recycling bin & now have a garden bin, so 3 wheelie bins in the front!

To top it off they now only empty each 1 every other week, which is fine for the recycle bin as I wash all the bottles etc out anyway but the rubbish bin stinks under our kitchen window!

Bin men won't take any extra bin bags either, we have to have the bin emptied then put the bin bag into the bin for the next collection 2 weeks later. Can you imagine what it's going to get like? There is a bin bag outside now cos it won't fit in the bin, it has already been ripped open by an animal. There'll be rats around if there's rubbish all the time. And the bacteria is developing over the 2 weeks period.
If you're going to stalk me, while you're at it can you cut the grass, feed the dog & make sure I've got bread & milk in :D
