I need to replace my laptop and quite fancied a tablet that has a dockable keyboard. I really like the look of the Asus Transformer Infinity (1920×1200 full hd screen, quad professor, 1.6 ghz...oh!!), but it's out of my price range of £500. The transformer Prime is a little cheaper with a slightly lower spec; however there have been problems with the built in wi-fi receiver.

Can anyone recommend an alternative? Or should i wait and hope prices fall dramatically? As always, any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Ps. I'm not particularly an Apple fan (i like my gadgets to be open source), so please no suggestions of the ipad variety!

EDIT
I've seen the Infinity for £550 from mobicity. I'm a bit reluctant to buy from a company that doesn't have reputable guarantees/ customer service.
November wins...a book, a designer handbag (worth £550 :T) and a game. I am now an addict and thank everyone for taking the time to share and post. :D

There is the Microsoft Surface, but it runs a limited version of Windows, so its not open source.

Just want to say our company bought a few different tablets to test if they are of any use to the business. One of my colleague tested the surface. Both of us were quite surprised how heavy the keyboard was.

I bought one of the original Transformers when they first came out and have, generally, been really pleased with it. As with the Surface the keyboard does make it heavier but it also protects the screen and, which is crucial for me, means I don't have to poke the screen to type! However, I don't know much about the difference between the two newer versions so can't be much help there I'm afraid. Hope you find something that suits you and doesn't bankrupt you in the process.
