removed in case it got the thread locked....

if it doesn't hurt I'd try to find a dentist this weekend - call and book an appt ASAP on Monday, and hope it stayed not hurting... emergency apps on the NHS are more likely to be drastic action as they are reserved for people in pain....

alot of NHS dentists around where I am are taking on so it will hopefully not be to bad to fix....

    hope all goes well. xx

You need to see a dentist.

If it's not causing you pain, then it's not 'urgent' in that you have to get to a dentist NOW, but it needs looking at quickly, before it does start causing you trouble. So make it a priority for the first few days of 2013.

Getting seen on the NHS, there will probably be a £17.50 charge for an emergency appointment, and having it sorted out will probably be a Band 2 NHS treatment that would cost about £47. Phone your local Primary Care Trust if you have any problem finding someone who'll see you on the NHS.

Other than that, we can't say much, as medical advice isn't allowed on these boards, and anyway, without seeing you or taking x-rays, no one here can say what it is or what to do.

Don't go to a Dr with it though! They get pigged off with seeing dental problems, and can't do anything to 'cure' it.
    How to find a dentist.
    1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
    2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
    3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
    4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.
  • I had exactly the same earlier this year, lump on outside of gum, sore to touch but otherwise not too painful.

A trip to dentist confirmed an abcess, not painful as it could drain (as not 'trapped' by tooth root).

Antibiotics prescribed by dentist, followed by a gum clean, have sorted it.
  • I work at a dentist and we always recommend to patients that a swelling is looked at as soon as possible. If you aren't with a dentist try to access a local emergency service, who will offer advice.
