I have a 20 yr old oil fired central system and I think it is time to replace it for a new condensing boiler. Does anyone know what the average price would be and how much scrappage would be?

Check out the NIHE website. They had a boiler replacement grant available.
some background info here ;

There's a government grant for replacing boilers that are over 15 years old. If you earn below £40,000 you get a certain amount towards a new more efficient one, and there's a bigger grant if you earn below £20,000.
Here's the link http://www.nidirect.gov.uk/grant-to-replace-your-boiler though I've heard they're very slow in processing the paperwork. People have been waiting ages to even hear back from the Housing Executive, (that's who's handling the whole thing, even for people living in their own private houses). Still worth applying though0
