Loss on shares be offset against pension tax?

Hi, I hope you can help. Can a large loss on stock market shares be used against tax on pension? Or any other way this loss can be put to some sort of use for 2 retired people. Many Thanks

Losses can be forwaded against Capital Gains Tax. But you have to inform HMRC that you are doing so I believe.

Losses on shares cannot be offset against income - ie pensions, savings interest or employment.

To clarify if necessary: shares cannot make a loss until you sell them. Hypothetical losses on shares you continue to hold are of no relevance to the tax you pay.

Capital losses on the sale of shares can be used to offset capital gains which otherwise be taxable including gains on shares and, for example, gains on the sale of a second home; but not against taxable income.
