Well hopefully quite a lot, although I do worry that Germany will steal a large number of them.

This man truly believes that thousands of Bulgarian and Romanian Immigrants will provide benefit to the UK economy.
The economic projections that show the UK becoming the biggest and most successful economy in Europe within the next 38 years

Don't count on it. Having said that, since the Eurozone is going down the plug hole fast, becoming the "most successful" member state may not actually be that hard to do.
Essentially, we need to keep net migration somewhere above 250,000 a year, although more would be nice.

    Lol.

Hamish isn't stupid. He knows what he has (2 houses) will be in higher demand. Don't let him fool you it's anything other than this which is his main concern.

    Now that is interesting Graham....

It is true that I have two houses.

It is also true that increased immigration is good for me.

However increased immigration would be good for me if I had one house.

And increased immigration would be good for me if I did not own a house at all.

Immigration benefits society as a whole. Not just property owners.

So whilst your correct observation of the number of houses I own at least proves you've been paying attention for the last few years, it neither enhances the logic of your argument nor refutes any of the points I raise.

Perhaps you'd like to try again.....;)

If GDP is based on cash in hand car cleaning and iffy Big Issue sales, we will have an economic boom.

Not to forget petty theft and gypsy curses on your doorstep.

I have no problem with selective immigration. I have a big problem with my nation being overrun by uneducated, penniless thieves.

    Wow.

    Just..... Wow.

In case you're still wondering why we assume most anti-immigration zealots are actually bigoted, racist, ignorant pigs?

Those posts pretty much sum it up.

  • Well hopefully quite a lot, although I do worry that Germany will steal a large number of them.

The economic projections that show the UK becoming the biggest and most successful economy in Europe within the next 38 years count on Germany's near inevitable decline through an ageing population not being reversed by increased immigration.

Because even though they currently have the most immigrants in Europe, it's nowhere near enough to prevent their economy declining over the medium term as their ageing crisis kicks in.

As for how many are acceptable?

However many are required to maintain or improve on the current balance between workers and pensioners.

Essentially, we need to keep net migration somewhere above 250,000 a year, although more would be nice.

There really is no need to worry Hamish, please do not lose sleep over this, I am sure everybody in the EU will get a nice even distribution of these highly skilled entrepreneurs just waiting to swell the UK's depleted public finances :)
  • hamish, could you please explain, to the idiot faction how a million romanian and bulgarian beggars and thieves will be good for the economy? how will these non-working leeches help support the pensioners whilst claiming benefit themselves and begging on tube trains.

    Just so I know.
    Cheers.

You'd have to be a complete bigoted idiot to think that all Romanians and Bulgarians are "beggars and thieves".

So that's almost certainly your problem. :)

Quite right. The UK is not overcrowded and is not swamped by immigrants compared with other countries.

And EFTA already exists. Before we joined the EU we were the largest of the seven member states. The remaining four are surviving quite well and don't have to enact all EU regs despite what you hear on these threads. Only concern for the UK would be that EFTA's about a quarter the size it was before so would they be happy to absorb a big country like the UK.

Tell the Daily Mail that, Zag ;)

Immigration can be seen as both a good and bad thing, although the figures in Austria are shocking, and I think that the people I know in Austria are either Romanian or Russian, but 84% immigrants? Really? (assuming I've read the figures correctly).

Many of the tenants in the warehouse units we're in are [STRIKE]Russian[/STRIKE] Soviet, and are also some of London's largest employers Yelena Baturina being one of the fastest growing ones.
