What do you need the details for after all this time?
NU do keep records of old policies (as do all insurers) but NU is a collection of many insurance companies of old and a lot of the old policy details are stored on legacy computer systems and you would need to give them a fair bit of information to help them locate the policy.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). Thats a waste of time.
endowments didnt start heading short until around 1999. One taken out in the early 80s would have had LAPR (tax relief) and benefited from MIRAS. Plus returns then were still much higher than the target rates.
The short timescale you had would probably favour the endowment due to the lower cost compared to a repayment mortgage (which reduces very little in the early years).
Plus it was pre-regulation (29th April 1988) and you would only be able to complain if you bought it from a Norwich Union representative.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA).
