my photographer has just cancelled and less than 5 months away :(

im in a bit of a dilema here, ive just had a message from my photographer saying she can no longer do our wedding, im in bits and i dont know what to do - we have had her booked for 18 months!! she is doing charity work over in Narobi or somewhere like that and has been asked over again in May which is understandable as its something she loves doing etc. But im panicing now because our date is so popular and we got such a great deal with her - the whole package half price and our date is so popular (may bank holiday) that im going to find it hard finding someone else. does anyone have any recommendations for a photographer in the north west lancashire area - we want a photographer, pre wedding shoot, bridal prep, up to the first dance and a photo booth. I want a contemporary style look / reportage but with posed photos aswell. hopefully under £1,000 (our current deal was all that for 676!!)

PLEASE HELP ME!!

Oh hun I really feel for you. I had this with my photographer at the start of the month (get married in April) but I actually got rid of her she was totally unreliable and just pure rude! Lucky I hadn't paid her anything yet (phew!)

First thing and it is easier said than done take a deep breath and try to remain calm otherwise you will could panic and make the wrong decision.

Then contact her back check you are getting a full refund of everything you have paid so you know how much you have to play around with and also ask her if she can suggest anyone who she thinks would be good. If she has some suggestions contact them explain the situation (you never know they may feel generous towards your situation).

Failing that look up photographs in your area or speak to your venue for suggestions. Again explain what has happened can they help or do they know someone who can? Write everything down as you may forget it most of it because you are upset and stressed.

Once you know what's out there take a break and talk each option through either with your OH, bridesmaid (it's what their there for lol) or your family. Then sleep on it don't make any rash descisions as you feel time is against you.

Hope it all works out and you get a bit of luck.

  • I think your photographer really needs to assist you on this. Are they a member of swpp for example through which they could ask for cover. I'd a quick look at wedding spot.co.uk and they've a lot of Lancashire wedding photographers.I belong to a UK group of wedding photographers if you need any more assistance i could ask if anyone's available.
  • My photographer was brilliant and i'd highly recommend him. I found him through a another bride on here, and was really happy with the photos. I got a real mixture of posed and natural pics, which we got on a disk (around 500 pics I think). He does the whole day, and engagement shoots, but not too sure if he does photo booths so may be worth asking?

His website is http://www.willheyweddingphotography.com/ or look on his Facebook page, as you can see more pics and he puts up quite a few for each wedding he does (if you want him to).

Hope you find someone soon x
  • hi :) my cousin is a wedding photographer I can't put his website because I'm a new poster but his name is Gareth Durham and he's in Preston, if you Google him he'll come up. I don't know what he charges but I know he's a good guy and wouldn't let you down once you'd booked!

Try http://www.greystonephotography.co.uk/ Pete is a lovely chap he might have your date free. Tell him I sent you. His prices are really reasonable and he doesn't charge extra for travelling.

I seem to remember you're in the same Lancashire coastal resort as me... we used Paul James from Thornton. I don't know whether he does photo booths though.

PM me and I'll send you the link to our albums on his website.

  • thanks guys, weve found one now in Lytham :) and he seems really good, i can finally relax again now.
  • Hi there!
I was brought up by a photographer (my dad does fashion photography now though) And I can vouch for the fact that you might well bet better quality work for a much cheaper price if you find a student/good amateur photographer. They'll often do it for peanuts, for the sake of building up a folio, and there are so many who's work is superior to that of established, professional photographers (which can often be quite formulaic). It's worth a though! :)
