Hi all
Please please, can some-one point me in the direction of an
emergency denture repairer, somewhere in the Preston area,
(that isn't going to cost a fortune ?)
We have a 'denture disaster' and are going away for a few days
tomorrow:eek::eek::eek::eek:
Our regular dentist is now closed til the morning & their repair service takes 24 hrs,so would only go tomorrow lunchtime, and wouldn't be back til Mon, as they are not open on a Saturday:(:(:(:(

if you google emergency denture repairers there seems to be a few that come up with service while you wait or one hour repair etc
alternatively if you are going somewhere in the uk could you find one where you are goingThe mind is like a parachute. It doesn’t work unless it’s open.:o
A winner listens, a loser just waits until it is their turn to talk:)0 -
Or put 'Dental Laboratory' into google search.;)
Good luck.

By 'a fortune' what do you mean?
If you consider how much it would cost to sort a car problem or a plumbing problem out at this time of year - I'm sure you'd find most of the charges you'd be quoted pretty reasonable! How to find a dentist.
1. Get recommendations from friends/family/neighbours/etc.
2. Once you have a short-list, VISIT the practices - dont just phone. Go on the pretext of getting a Practice Leaflet.
3. Assess the helpfulness of the staff and the level of the facilities.
4. Only book initial appointment when you find a place you are happy with.0 -

Perhaps a slightly oversensitive response, most people would find it hard paying for a car or plumbing problem too on top of all the extra costs of Christmas and would be equally unhappy to have those unexpected costs.
And whilst plenty of dentists are reputable and charge a fair price, there are some that charge a lot for shoddy work - much as you'll find the quality and cost of car mechanics and plumbers work can vary too.0 -
The only thing I would add is whatever you do ,do not superglue the denture yourself. Once it has been superglued it cannot be professionally repaired and you will need a new denture as superglue doesn't last long in the mouth. An expensive mistake.
Good luck with finding a technician open over Christmas as most shut down over this time as keeping furnaces etc going at a time when few people want routine appointments is difficult and expensive.
British dental technicians are having a very hard time at the moment, increased regulation, a massive drop in income from nhs work and competition from cheap foreign labs have decimated them.0 -

Most dental technicians round our way charge £20 to £25 for a one hour repair. Granted on the nhs a denture repair is free but for a skilled persons time and the expense of running of regulated dental lab this compares very well to car mechanics, plumbers who have no where near the amount of regulation.0
