loan being repaid ?? any tax

Some years ago the company I had shares in was bought by another company. I sold some of my shares and the rest were loan notes ? in the new. They paid interest to me every year. They have written to say they have to repay me the money.........

Should I be checking if I have to pay any tax as this loan relates to shares in the first place ? Will the company send me details when they repay me ?

  • Hi

If there was a gain on the exchange of the original shares for loan notes this gain may well have been deferred until you redeemed the loan notes. I think you will only know for sure by looking at your tax return for the tax year that the share sale/exchange occured.
